A little about me

Hi, I'm Sierra.

Portland-born, Mexico-based writer and editor.

I've always been interested in people's stories, the experiences that shape them, and the details that make each life unique.

For the past year, I've worked with My Stories Matter, helping families turn memories, photos, and recordings into hardcover memoirs.

I believe a life story is one of the most important things a person will ever write. I don't use AI to write, edit, or proofread. I believe these stories deserve a human being behind every word.

When I'm not editing, I love walking on the beach with my rescue dog, Phoebe, hiking, and exploring new places!

Services

How I can help

Not everyone comes to me with the same starting point. Some people have spent years writing their autobiography, others have boxes of old letters, photographs, and memories they want to turn into something meaningful.

Wherever you're starting, there are a few ways I can help.

01

Proofreading

You've written your story. I'll help you get it ready to share.

I carefully review your manuscript for spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and consistency. I also check formatting, paragraph breaks, and other details that can make a manuscript feel unfinished.

The goal is a clean, professional manuscript that is ready for its next step, without changing the way you naturally write.

02

Copyediting

Your story is there. Let's make the writing stronger.

I work through your manuscript to improve sentence structure, clarity, flow, and readability. I'll help eliminate unnecessary repetition, smooth out awkward passages, and make sure your ideas come across clearly.

Most importantly, I'll preserve your voice. Your story should still sound like you when we're finished.

03

Memoir & Autobiography Writing

You have the memories. I'll help you put them into words.

Maybe you've always wanted to write your life story but aren't sure where to begin.

Through conversations, interviews, and collaboration, I can help organize your experiences and develop them into a written narrative that reflects your life and personality.

The process

What working together looks like

I want the process to feel comfortable and straightforward. You don't need to arrive with a perfectly organized manuscript or know exactly what you need.

01.Let's talk.

We'll start with a conversation about your project, what you're hoping to accomplish, and how I can help. There's no obligation to move forward.

02.We'll get to work.

Once we agree on the scope, I'll work through your manuscript or help you begin developing your story. You'll have the opportunity to review the work and share feedback along the way.

03.Your story, ready to share.

You'll receive a carefully reviewed manuscript that you can print, publish, share with family, or simply keep for yourself.

My work

A closer look at my work

My approach to editing a life story does not involve changing someone's story or voice, but helping the story come through.

Here's a short example of how I approach editing. The goal is to improve the rhythm and clarity while keeping the details that make the story personal.

Before: Original draft

When I think back to my childhood some of my best memories was spending summer at my grandparents house. Every weekend we would go their and I was always excited to see them. My grandmother was always in the kitchen making something and my grandfather worked outside in the garden. I remember the smell of fresh bred and my grandfather listening to the radio. At the time I never relized how special these moments were. We didnt do anything exciting, we just ate lunch and talked about our lifes.
